OPLAN SAGIP BAYAMBANG

Bayambang is one of the towns of Pangasinan strongly hit by the fury of the second come back of typhoon "Pepeng" wind mire rains that forced San Roque Dam in San Manuel to open all its six sluice gates to release millions of cubic meters of water that came rushing down to seek it level.

The onslaught of water from the San Roque dam and continuous rains breached the flood control dike in Barangay Bacnono of Bayambang that swelled the Agno River and inundated many villages abd caused countless residents scapering to the safety of their rooftops.

Officials of Bayambang led by Mayor Ricardo M. Camacho. Vice-Mayor Mylvin T. Junio and the Councilors, the local police head led by P/Supt. Aligre Martinez, and not to mention all concerned personnelsm found their hands full saving lives and rescuing people marooned in their homes and bringing them to safer places.

While official estimates are still forthcoming, the damage in terms of property and agriculture is believed to be unprecendeted in the town's history.

The floodwaters have receded, but there remains an equally bigger problem for Mayor Camacho and his fellow town officials: giving aid to victims until they are able to stand on their feet alone again.

Mayro Camacho, however, says that, while the local goevrnment has funds to handle situations like this, the same may not last long, given the extent of the damage in the lives and economy of the people.

We need help in the form of cash and material donations from well-meaning citizens and friends here and abroad, Mayor Camacho said.
